Dandelion Root is a tonic and gentle diuretic which purifies the blood, cleanses the system and has a regenerative effect on the liver. It is one of the top herbs in the Chinese herbal medicine chest. Dandelion is a potent electrolyte balancer and is known for its ability to induce the flow of bile which is why it is such an effective blood cleanser and has such a powerful effect of on the liver. Dandelion is very rich in fiber, potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, choline and the ‘B’ vitamins, thiamine and riboflavin. It is also very rich in flavonoid compounds, essential fatty acids and micronutrients such as copper, cobalt zinc, boron and molybdenum. It is a good source of protein as well. USDA botanist Dr. James Duke suggests that a proper and appropiate ‘herbal soup’ such as Dandelion Root with vitamins, minerals and a whole host of bioactive compounds from which the body can selectively strain the compounds it needs to restore itself to health, is much more effective than synthetic medicines containing select and specialized compounds. A chemist who analyzed Dandelion for among other things, trace minerals, stated that Dandelion is an example of a harmonious combination of trace elements, vitamins and other biologically active substances in ratios optimal for a human organism. Dandelion is nature’s richest green vegetable source of beta-carotene, from which vitamin A is created, and the third richest source of vitamin A of all foods, after cod-liver oil and beef liver.
